KASHII

--- with long history and legends ---

Click here to Japanese version of this page.

There have been many bibliographies which refer to "Kashii" since the period of "Manyô", the oldest collection of Japanese poems.

According to the Japanese geographical dictionary of Kadokawa, the shrines, beaches and seashores of Kashii had been known for their scenic beauty, about which many poems were composed. It is said that till the early Meiji era, the west area of Hamao Shrine and Tongû Shrine beside the entry to Kashii Sandô had been a beach and both Torii had stood, facing the sea to the west.

We wish to reproduce the picture of old Kashii, looking at its long history and legends from the age of Gods.

When we were making these documents, the Kashii Shrine Office showed us their pamphlet. We express our hearty thanks to their kind support.
