The
Kakiemon-style kiln, completed in October 2000, is a wood-fired kiln that has
the combined functions of a climbing kiln and a single kiln. The kiln was designed
by Sakaida Kakiemon XIV, a guest professor of the Graduate School of Fine Arts
and Living National Treasure. Prof. Sakaida generously allowed the construction
of the kiln, a type that had never before been built outside the residence
of the Sakaida Kakiemon family, in order to provide young artists with an in-depth
opportunity to experience traditional crafts. The kiln has become a symbol
of the strong ties between KSU and the local community. |
